« on: March 04, 2011, 12:22:26 PM »
Create a text file named
Code: [Select]
Minecraft.l4j.ini in the same folder as Minecraft.exe that you use to start the game.

Inside this file you can add java options:

Code: [Select]
# Launch4j runtime config
-Xms2048M
-Xmx2048M

If your 32bit anything java is 1.5gb max. You have to have the ram to allocate.
verify your latency to the the server is low, use ping -t ssss.me
check your network, with something like speedtest.net
if you network is good, and you have the bandwidth, then the only thing I can thing of is that there is still a lot of code to be done in bukkit.

This is what mine looks like:

http://www.speedtest.net/result/1189346468.png

http://www.speedtest.net/result/1189455196.png

There a 4 major causes of lag issues, this is the order in which I think they are the likely cause.

The network
(the network connection between you and the server)
It looks like your connecting from Europe, that's a long way to go for a game server.
I have bad internet, I'm bandwidth limited to 1mbit, I don't really think it's a bandwidth issue. When I'm really pushing minecraft I see transfer rates around 80kb/sec 640kbit/sec. The latency is around 45ms. In game I notice no lag under these conditions. When I have lag issues, I can see the latency shoot up, I start getting 400ms or sometimes as bad as 3500ms. I have windows 7 so the resource monitor can show latency, I keep this open while I play and can see the latency go up when the game lags.
On the server side of things, the server is on a 100mbit connection that goes to gbit+ network. I don't think that is the issue.

Your computer
(minecraft does take a bit of gfx power to run well)
What are your detailed computer specs. Maybe that can help us compare with others that are having lag issues. If others post what they are using and their network tests to Arizona, we can compare our networks and computers and see if we can narrow down the major source of lag.
I play on this:
MB: Asus M4A79T Deluxe (790fx)
CPU: AMD 965 oc 3.8Gz
RAM: 8gb Corsair CMX8GX3M4A1600C9 1600Mhz
GPU: nvidia 295 GTX

the software
minecraft is beta, we are using a de compiled ported version of the server called bukkit, it fixes some of the minecraft_server bugs but not all of them and introduces some of it's own. We are running mods that could contain bugs. Many factors could be causing the game to lag. But since the game seems to play fine for a lot of people, I am less inclined to think that the software is the source of the lag.

the server
As minecraft servers go the one that runs ssss.me is rather powerful. It was the best performing server I could find for a reasonable price.
Xeon X3440 2.53GHz
16 GB DDR3-1333 ECC SDRAM
100 Mbps Uplink

WHen my new roommate moves in I'm going to most likely upgrade my Cox Internet package to their best speed considering it will probably get bogged down otherwise.
